California prisons might have to hire witches

California taxpayers, who already pay for prison chaplains covering Catholic, Jewish, Muslim, Protestant and Native American religions, might have to add witches to the employee list.

The U.S. 9th District Court of Appeals has returned a discrimination case to the district court to sort out the argument.

The lawsuit was brought by two inmates of the Central California Women’s Facility in Chowchilla. They contended that their rights were violated because the state corrections department had not hired any chaplains who were Wiccan, even though it employed chaplains for other religions…
