PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE As I'm sure you are all aware, on Thursday, November 6, 2008, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger called for a Special Legislative Session to address the current state economic crisis. Facing over an $11 billion revenue shortfall, the governor announced his plans to bridge that gap through both revenue increases and major spending reductions which impact state workers. In his news conference, the governor said, "We have drastic problems that require drastic and immediate action -- we must stop the bleeding right now..."[READ THE FULL MESSAGE] GOVERNOR'S SPECIAL SESSION11/6/08 - The following is information released today about the Governor's proposal in a Special Session with California Legislature to address the current budget deficit. It includes state employee unpaid furlough days for 17 months, reducing the number of state holidays by 2 a year and relaxing some state labor regulations dealing with meal and rest periods, overtime exemptions and work schedules. Just a reminder that this is just a proposal at this time.
