The primary suspect in last year’s fatal stabbing of a 31-year-old Oakland man near Anderson City Hall has been charged with murder and a series of criminal enhancements by the Shasta County district attorney’s office.

Vincent Gino Chavez Jr., 30, of San Jose is charged with one count of murder in the Aug. 13 stabbing death of Sue Eian Saeturn, 31.

He’s also charged with six enhancements, including street terrorism, criminal street gang activity and being a prior felon, according to electronic Shasta County Superior Court records...

A preliminary hearing is scheduled today at the Airport Branch courthouse for Zackariah Lehnen.

Lehnen, a 31-year-old transient, is charged with fatally stabbing 89-year-old Lucien Bergez and 27-year-old Erica Escobar, whose bodies were found in Berger’s Culver City home on May 3, 2011.

According to Culver City Police Chief Don Pederson, Lehnen already has a criminal record, including arrests for domestic violence and narcotics...

An ongoing cold-case investigation into the 1998 shooting death of a female prison guard near the 91 Freeway in Anaheim led to an arrest warrant for a fourth suspect, authorities said Tuesday.

Charges were filed in February against three other men, including the woman's husband. He was accused of orchestrating the murder of Elizabeth Wheat Begaren so that he could collect on a $1 million life insurance policy.

Sheets had apparently run into a 65-year-old woman who he had previously asked to marry about a year ago and may have sought a gun because he was possibly scheming to shoot her, according to the Sheriff’s Office...

Sheriff’s deputies have arrested a suspect in Sunday’s fatal stabbing of a Hesperia teen in Apple Valley.

Clarence Hogue, a 26-year-old transient and parolee, was arrested late this morning on a local transit bus in Victorville, the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department said in a news release. He was taken into custody without incident.

A good Samaritan shot at a Lynwood meat market during a weekend robbery has died, authorities said today. George Alvarado, 43, of Lynwood died about 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Francis Medical Center, said coroner's Chief Craig Harvey.

Alvarado was one of two good Samaritans shot about 7 p.m. Sunday in the 11800 block of Atlantic Avenue, the Sheriff's Department reported. The other survived.

Convicted killer, Loren Herzog was found dead around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, according to corrections officer Terry Thornton.

Thornton said the parole agency supervising Herzog was alerted when his GPS device had a low battery. When officials checked on Herzog at his trailer just outside of the High Dessert State prison property, they found him hanging.

No suicide note was found at the location said Thornton...

A man who was supposed to report to San Luis Obispo County for parole is instead behind bars again, accused of killing his mother.

34-year-old Anthony David Yee had just been released from prison when prosecutors say he strangled his mother, Judith Nathan, in Chico on December 19th. Authorities say Yee broke in, waiting for her in the dark when she came home, before killing her by strangling and attacking her with a hammer. Authorities say he then hid her body in her septic tank.

It happened about ten days after he was released from San Quentin State Prison at a time when he was required but failed to check in for parole in San Luis Obispo County...

Lompoc police have arrested Charles Alonzo Owens, 25, a parolee who is in custody in the Santa Barbara County Jail, in connection with the 2007 shooting death of Lompoc resident Michael Jason Spradling, the department announced today.

Spradling, then 25, was shot in the late evening of June 11, 2007, and was found by officers lying in the 400 block of the N. L and M street alley after they received a 911 call from a citizen who reported hearing gunshots....

U.S. Marshal Albert Najera, of the Eastern District of California, announced today that the U.S. Marshals Pacific Southwest Regional Fugitive Task Force (PSWRFTF) Fresno Division, arrested 33 year old Jennifer Case, and 39 year old Henry Eliseo Renteria. Both are wanted by the Fresno Police Department for the Murder of 19 year old Michael James Mitchell of Fresno. Renteria was also wanted by the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) for violating his conditions of parole.

On December 5, 2011, Michael James Mitchell was found dead, with trauma to his body, in the alley of the 1300 block of E. Harvard Avenue in Fresno. According to Detectives with the Fresno Police Department, the victim and suspect had been involved in a disturbance prior to the murder...

A Southern California teen who pleaded guilty to killing a gay classmate was sentenced Monday to 21 years in prison.

Brandon McInerney, 17, will serve time in a juvenile detention center until he turns 18, at which point he will be transferred to the custody of the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. He will get no credit for time already served, and was ordered to pay $10,000 in restitution.

In September, a judge declared a mistrial in the case of McInerney after a nine week trial when jurors said they were hopelessly deadlocked on whether he should be found guilty of manslaughter or murder in the death of Lawrence King. He was set to be retried as an adult...

An inmate is accused of killing his cellmate at High Desert State Prison on Tuesday, authorities say.

Ivan Mejia, 26, was found dead in his cell Tuesday evening, said prison spokesman Lt. Charlie Hahn. Prison authorities say they suspect Mejia's cellmate, 27-year-old Angel Gomez, in the killing and have placed him in the Administrative Segregation Unit pending further investigation, Hahn said.

A strange smell led police to a parolee who was found living with the body of a 30-year-old woman in his apartment Tuesday night.

Police were at the scene overnight on the 1100 block of East Cliff Drive in Santa Cruz.  Several witnesses told Central Coast News that there was a bad and unusual smell coming 63-year-old John Clauer's apartment.

According to the apartment complex manager, the police knocked on the door of the upstairs apartment because of complaints about the smell.  The tenant allegedly told the police that the smell was coming from some rotting food...

An Altadena parolee and suspected gang member was arrested on Friday for the January murder of 47-year-old Pasadena resident Donnell Taylor, according to Pasadena Police Department spokeswoman Phlunte Riddle.

Vernon Fisher, 38 is the second person to be arrested for Taylor's slaying,  which took place on the evening of January 19 in the 1700 block of Summit Avenue.

Seven years after Alfredo Montez Valenzuela climbed through a window of an elderly couple's home and brutally stabbed them to death, a jury Wednesday found the Monrovia parolee guilty of first-degree murder.

The attorneys for Alfredo Montez Valenzuela, 38, expressed no surprise at the verdict: Court testimony showed Valenzuela had confessed to police he killed Charles "Clark" Shaum and his wife Bernice Shaum.

Jurors began deliberating Tuesday.

"This verdict was not surprising to us at all," said attorney Michael Adelson, who acknowledged during the trial that his client had indeed committed the crimes...

A pretrial hearing for Johnl Reynolds, a parolee charged with murder in the 2007 shooting of 17-year-old Ebony Huel outside an underground nightclub, was postponed Monday.

Welch is suspected of slaying Kimberly Smith of Oconomowoc, Wis., on Oct. 1. Her body was found with hands bound behind her back and with multiple stab wounds, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel newspaper. Her 4-year-old son was home at the time, police have told the newspaper.
