New acting Warden at CCI
Kim Holland is the new Acting Warden at the California Correctional Institution. Mike Stainer, the former Acting Warden who was formally appointed to the Warden’s position by Gov. Jerry Brown on Jan. 17, is on assignment as Acting Associate Director of the California Dept. of Corrections and Rehabilitation in Sacramento. Holland was introduced at a recent meeting of the CCI Citizens Advisory Committee.

Stainer is Acting Warden at CCI
Even before he officially became California Correctional Institution's Acting Warden on Dec. 30, 2010, Mike Stainer had a big problem to tackle.
Stainer was in charge; retiring Warden Fernando Gonzalez had taken the remainder of his employment in vacation time and was gone.
On Christmas day, 15,300 square feet of roof blew off the Unit II facility's administration and education buildings...

CCI remains on lockdown
The California Correctional Institution in Cummings Valley remains on a modified program as of Wednesday, Aug. 12 in response to the serious inmate disturbance at the California Institution for Men in Chino over the weekend.
A modified program is not as severe as a lockdown, in which all inmates are confined to their cells, said California Correctional Institution (CCI) Public Information Officer Jon Bartelmie.
The Chino disturbance erupted Saturday, Aug. 8. Bartelmie said that CCI sent 79 officers, supervisors and medical personnel to assist at the Chino facility. The last one returned Tuesday, Aug. 11…

Prison Officials: Inmate Stabbed to Death by 2 Convicted Murderers
An inmate was found stabbed to death in a prison yard Monday, allegedly by two other inmates who were serving sentences for murder.
Officials at the California Correctional Institution in Tehachapi say the attack on Evan Broderick, 20 happened out in the open in the prison yard.
Broderick's body was found with multiple stab wounds. Prison officials have not released the details of what kind of weapon was used or how the weapons were obtained.
The two suspects, Travis Frazier, 26, and Kenneth Nowlin, 29, are both serving sentences for murder at the minimum-to-maximum security prison which houses 5,800 inmates…

Prison yard stabbing leaves one inmate dead
A 20-year-old inmate's three year sentence for grand theft was cut short yesterday morning following a fatal stabbing in the prison yard at the California Corrections Institution in Tehachapi.
The victim , Evan Broderick, of Sonoma County, died from multiple stab wounds shortly after 10 a.m. yesterday, according to a prison media release.

Inmate caught in Bakersfield hours after escape from CCI
The California Correctional Institution notified area law enforcement agencies Monday, Dec. 1 that a minimum security inmate had stolen a state truck and escaped –- but he was well on his way to Bakersfield before the roads could be blocked.
Inmate Jack Gayne, 40, of Torrance, helped himself to a white Chevy Silverado pickup he was working on at the prison motor pool and drove through a ranch-type fence outside the secure perimeter at approximately 10:45 a.m. Officers from four agencies apprehended him at 3:45 p.m. the same day in Bakersfield as he was making a phone call in a booth near a Texaco station on Weedpatch Highway.

Tehachapi prison fight breaks out
A fight broke out Thursday evening among scores of inmates at a Tehachapi prison.
Up to 200 people got into a fight at about 7 p.m. at the California Correctional Institution, according to Lt. Brian Parriott, spokesman for the prison. The fight was apparently between inmates from Southern California and people from Mexico.
Two inmates were injured and taken to local hospitals. No correctional officers were injured…

Lockdown for state prisons fully lifted, investigation into Tehachapi stabbings continues
Nearly all of the state's prisons are no longer on lockdown, as of Monday afternoon.
The lockdown was ordered last week. That's when four employees were attacked by inmates at the California Correctional Institution in Tehachapi, near Bakersfield.

Update on Staff/Situation at Tehachapi…
The sergeant who suffered the skull and stab injuries was in good condition after being released from a hospital's intensive care unit, said Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation spokeswoman Terry Thornton. She said it was not clear how the sergeant fractured his skull.
The other guards and both inmates were treated for their injuries Thursday and released. One guard injured her knee responding to the stabbings.
The attackers rushed the guards in an office on the maximum security general population yard shortly after 1 p.m. Thursday, Thornton said. Guards stopped the attack with pepper spray, batons and physical force. The two inmates were taken to isolation cells at Corcoran State Prison while officials investigate, Thornton said…

Union (CCPOA) Releases Statement About Tehachapi Stabbing
Today, between 12:30 and 1:00pm at the California Correctional Institution an incident occurred at their 4A Facility. Initial reports indicate that two (2) Southern Hispanic inmates armed with inmate manufactured stabbing weapons came out of either the library or classroom area and attacked the Unit office.
Three staff were stabbed numerous times in the face and neck area which included two Sergeants and one of the two officers assigned to the area. The other officer injured their knee but was not stabbed.
Because of the location, the Yard Gunner could not fire. Staff once again demonstrated their bravery and courage in protecting one-another, and with the help of the Lieutenant in the back office and responding staff, quelled the attacks…

3 Guards Stabbed at California Prison
Two gang-affiliated inmates rushed three guards at a state prison Thursday and stabbed them, putting them in the hospital, officials said.

Kern Prisons May Expand to Alleviate State Overcrowding
The state prison system is facing a bed shortage, and several Kern facilities may expand to help relieve overcrowded conditions. Statewide, too many inmates are sleeping in gymnasiums and day rooms rather than dormitory-style or cell accommodations. North Kern State Prison and Kern Valley State Prison in Delano, Wasco State Prison and California Correctional Institution in Tehachapi will participate in the state infill housing program. Infill beds are designed to alleviate crowded conditions at existing prison sites, said Brian Parriott, a spokesman for California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.
