City employee investigated for smuggling to Calipat inmate crews
Officials say Saul Sandoval has been placed on Administrative leave.
Sandoval was arrested by Brawley Police and booked into County Jail on charges of possession of Narcotics. He is also being investigated for passing contraband to a Calipatria State Prison inmate on a work crew in the city.
Details of that investigation are very sketchy. Brawley Police announced the investigation, but have said very little...

Calipatria prison employee to be honored for heroic deed
A Calipatria State Prison employee is slated to receive a commendation following his rescue of a family of four this week from a partially submerged vehicle that plunged into the Central Main Canal off Austin Road, an official said Thursday.
Jesus Coronado, who oversees health care access for inmates, is going to be recommended for a medal of valor for his heroic deed Wednesday by the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, said Administrative Lt. Jorge Santana. The award ceremony would be in May in Sacramento, Santana said.
A press release of the incident that was reported at 4:59 p.m. had not been issued by the California Highway Patrol since no injuries were reported, said Highway Patrol Officer Pablo Torrez. Non-injury crashes are not covered in press releases by the Highway Patrol, Torres said...

Riot at Calipatria State Prison Under Investigation; Inmates Injured
Calipatria State Prison investigators and the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation’s Deadly Force Investigation Team are investigating a riot that broke out at the prison late this morning.
The incident involved approximately 120 inmates in the Facility A general population maximum-security yard. No staff was hurt during the incident, which drew trained response teams from other areas of the prison.
Preliminary reports indicate that 14 inmates were injured, with 10 being taken to outside hospitals for treatment of moderate to serious injuries...

More than 100 inmates involved in riot at Calipatria state prison
Calipatria state prison in Imperial County was placed on lockdown Tuesday after a riot broke out, prison officials said Tuesday.
More than 100 inmates were involved in the melee at Facility A, a maximum security prison yard for general population prisoners, authorities said. Fourteen inmates were injured, with 10 hospitalized for injuries ranging from severe cuts to gunshot wounds.
Guards used pepper spray to help quell the violence, which erupted about 10:38 a.m. Monday, according to officials with the state Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation...

Calipatria employees involved in fatal collision
(43 year old man dies from injuries)…The injuries were suffered in an early morning collision.
The County Coroner’s office says Adan Elizondo died at El Centro Regional Medical Center.
Elizondo was an employee at the Calipatria State Prison. He was reported riding a motorcycle North on Highway 86...
