Update: Suspect arrested in robbery, assault on cop

A 38-year-old Chico transient who allegedly hit a police officer with a car was arrested about five hours later at a Park Avenue motel.

James George Harris, who was also wanted as a "parolee at large," was arrested at about 9:30 p.m. Thursday without incident by the Chico police.

Harris was accused of striking Chico police officer Frank Deshler with a car about 4:30 p.m. Thursday as the suspect was fleeing from the Walmart store on Forest Avenue after allegedly robbing it.

Reportedly the suspect entered the store about 4:30 p.m. in slippers and left them behind. It wasn't immediately determined what he had taken from Walmart, but the shoplift quickly turned more serious when security personnel approached him in the parking lot and the man claimed to have a weapon...
