Long Beach Police officer shot by own gun during struggle with robbery suspect

A Long Beach Police Department officer was shot in the leg by a round from his own gun after a robbery suspect hit the weapon while struggling to get away, authorities said Friday.

The shooting occurred at about 11:43 p.m. Thursday after police were called to the 100 block of West Pacific Highway regarding an armed robbery, said Nancy Pratt, a Long Beach Police Department spokeswoman.
