Kern Valley

 

July 30- An officer was escorting an inmate from Bravo 1 ASU to TTA, when the inmate turned towards the officer aggressively to batter him. The inmate’s right shoulder hit the officer in the chest. At the same time the inmate forcefully threw his head back in an attempt to head butt the officer. The officer then took the inmate to the ground and injured his left elbow as a result of the assault. He was sent to TTA for medical evaluation. The officer was then sent to DRMC and given further medical treatment.
Pelican Bay

 

July 6- While being escorted from medication pass, an inmate lunged toward an officer in an apparent attempt to batter him via head butt. When the inmate suddenly lunged with his head towards the officer, other officers simultaneously placed the inmate on the floor in a prone position using physical strengths and holds. The inmate was placed in a Stokes Litter, medically evaluated and rehoused by staff without further incident. The inmate was charged with Assault on a Peace Officer Likely to Cause Serious Injury.
Ventura

 

July 30- A male ward entered the personal space of a female youth correctional counselor. As the counselor attempted to push the ward away, he forcefully grabbed her left arm and thrust it towards her face. The counselor lost her balance, forcing her to take a step back. Two other staff members that were in close proximity were able to isolate the staff and secure the ward.
 
July 29- A senior youth correctional counselor was at his desk when he was assaulted by two wards. The first ward spat on the SYCC twice then leaned over the desk and began striking him on the left side of the face with a closed fist punch. The SYCC blocked the second punch and simultaneously attempted to stop the attack. The second ward joined in the attack and threw closed fist punches that landed on the SYCC’s face and head. SYCC was able to push the first ward away as another staff member grabbed the other ward and took him to the ground. Two additional responding staff were able to secure the ward that initiated the attack.
