August 2010

August 29 – A Youth Correctional Officer was gassed in the neck and torso by a ward.
August 27 – A ward gassed a YCO; striking the head and facial area.

August 26 – A ward spit in the face of a Lieutenant.

As on August 26 – A ward spit at a Lieutenant; the spittle made contact on the Lt. face.
 
As on August 26 – A Youth Correctional Officer was gassed in the face and torso by a ward.

August 25 – A Youth Correctional Counselor was attacked by a ward. The ward struck the YCC in the head and facial area, as well as causing serious injury to the ankle and foot.

August 19 – A ward spit at a doctor.  The spittle struck the doctor’s leg.

August 7 – A Youth Correctional Counselor was gassed by a ward; striking the counselor on the leg.

As on August 7 – A ward threw a bottle of water at a YCO.  The bottle struck the officer in the face, breaking a tooth.

August 6 – A ward threw fruit at a YCC; striking the counselor on the jaw.

As on August 6 – A Youth Correctional Counselor was slapped by a ward.

August 5 – A YCC was gassed on the arm and torso by a ward.

August 4 – A ward slapped a YCC on the hand.

August 3 – A YCC was gassed by a ward. The gassing made contact with the counselor’s arm.

August 2 – A ward gassed a YCO; hitting the counselor on the wrist.
 

May 2010

 

May 25 – As YCO staff were supervising a ward on suicide watch with the door partially open, the ward tried to close the door and cover his window. As the YCO tried to stop him, the ward spit in the face of the YCO. 
 
May 14 – During dayroom program, a ward was out of bounds and yelling out the window at an outside program. YCC staff instructed the ward to stop and return to his seat. The ward became upset and left the window, only to return to the window a few minutes later. The ward was instructed to stop and return to his seat. The ward became hostile and threatened staff and began striking the YCC in the face and neck. The YCC immediately subdued the ward and stopped the attack. The YCC sustained a contusion on the neck and above the eye. 
April 2010

April 15 – Four wards were in the Drake dayroom being disruptive; staff called for assistance. As other security arrived, one ward reached behind a television and brought out a canister of pepper spray. Staff ordered the ward to drop the pepper spray but the ward refused. Staff deployed their chemical agents. At the same time, the ward used his pepper spray against staff. The ward was successful in striking one staff member in the face. Another YCC staff responding to the incident lost his footing and fell, due to the pepper spray making the floor slippery. One staff member sustained exposure to pepper spray and another received some bruising due to the fall.
