April 2011
April 3 – A visitor was escorted from the visiting room and interviewed by ISU. The visitor was arrested when she voluntarily relinquished approximately 4 grams of methamphetamines. The visitor was placed under arrest and transported to the Sacramento County Jail.
April 2 – A Tower Officer observed two inmates battering an inmate on the main yard. The officer fired a warning shot. Responding staff used pepper spray grenades to gain compliance. The Tower Officer then observed two other inmates battering another inmate in the alley. A Code 3 response was initiated. The Tower Officer used his 40 mm, striking one of the inmates in the back. As responding staff arrived the assailants got down in a prone position.
August 2010
August 27 – A riot occurred on the Main Yard involving more than 200 black and Southern Hispanic inmates. Pepper spray, 40 mm and the Mini 14 were used to quell the incident. Eight inmates were transported to outside hospitals with non life threatening injuries. Five inmates sustained gunshot wounds and three were sent with injuries consistent with being involved in the riot. CSP-Sacramento responded and provided additional support. FSP has been placed on lockdown pending an investigation into the cause of the riot.
May 2010
May 16 – Visiting staff smelled marijuana coming from an approved visitor of an inmate as she was being processed into visiting. When asked to consent to a search, she complained of feeling faint. An ambulance was called but the visitor refused to go to the hospital. She then consented to a search of her person and vehicle. During the search, she relinquished approximately 5.3 grams of marijuana. After the marijuana was discovered, the visitor appeared to lose consciousness. The ambulance transported her to an outside hospital accompanied by two officers. Due to her unusual behavior, hospital staff conducted an X-ray for any additional contraband but found nothing. The visitor was arrested and transported to the Sacramento County Jail; her vehicle impounded.
January 2010
January 30 – A visitor had been processed and was going through the gate when a visiting officer smelled marijuana onher. The visitor was escorted to ISU where a clothed body search was performed. The visitor voluntarily relinquished a plastic bag she had in her underwear, containing three bindles of marijuana weighing approximately 4.3 grams. The visitor was transported and booked into Sacramento County Jail.
January 2 – A visitor was found in possession of approximately 32.8 grams of marijuana. The visitor was arrested and transported to the county jail without further incident.
December 2009
December 8 – An officer entered a dorm and detected the odor of marijuana. The officer approached the only inmate in the dorm, who was trying to conceal an object in his hand. The officer ordered the inmate to show him what was in his hand, with negative results. The officer then radioed for assistance and ordered the inmate to turn around and submit to handcuffs. The inmate refused the order and ran in the direction of the officer. The inmate, using his shoulder, struck the officer in the chest causing him to step back in an effort to maintain his balance. The inmate continued to run out of the dorm and into another dorm, where he subsequently complied with staff orders to submit to handcuffs.
October 2009
October 7 - During the morning meal, a riot involving approximately 120 inmates took place. A Code 3 response was initiated and the riot was quelled. Staff used pepper spray and a 40mm launcher to stop the riot. Eight inmates were transported to outside hospitals for non-life threatening injuries. No staff were injured as a result of the melee.
April 2008
April 14 - Staff used a baton to stop an inmate who was striking another inmate in the head and torso with a wooden cane. During the initial investigation it was discovered the suspect had been stabbed earlier the same morning.
March 2008
March 28 - As an Officer was searching level one camp inmates, an inmate had an unauthorized lunch. When the Officer asked the inmate to open the wrapped bread, the Officer saw what appeared to be a bindle between the slices of bread and attempted to retrieve it. A struggle ensued and both the Officer and the inmate fell to the ground before the Officer gained control and restrained the inmate. The Officer sustained injuries to his arm and hand. The Officer was treated and released from a local hospital. The inmate was re-housed in ASU for battery on staff and possession of a controlled substance.
March 11 - Two inmates assaulted another inmate. Use of force involving OC pepper spray was needed to stop the fighting. The inmates received minor injuries as a result of the fighting with one inmate sustaining a broken hand. No staff injuries occurred.
February 2008
February 18 - While feeding breakfast a fight between Black and Southern Hispanic inmates broke out, quickly escalating into a riot. 180 inmates were involved in the melee. Staff stopped the riot, which lasted approximately seven to ten minutes.\
