Kern Valley

 December 9 – An officer was working the Bravo Yard Ad Seg when he was gassed. Specifically while the officer was preparing to cuff an inmate through the cuffing port in the shower, the inmate turned and threw feces in the officer’s face. The feces made contact with the officer’s eyes, ear and mouth. The officer was taken to outside medical for treatment.

December 29 – During a group disturbance on another hall, all wards were instructed to return to their rooms. All wards complied with the exception of one ward who refused and uttered unintelligible threats. As a PA1 stood blocking the stairway to the second tier, the ward forcefully pushed through the PA1’s left side causing her arm to get caught on the stair rail. This caused the PA1 to fall to a sitting position on the stairway. The PA1 suffered aching and redness to her left arm.

Paroles

 

December 28 – A parolee could face the death penalty if convicted of beating his mother with a hammer, strangling her and then hiding her body in the septic tank of her Chico home. The parolee was released from San Quentin State Prison just 10 days before killing her. The day before the killing the parolee had argued with his mother because she would not allow him to stay with her because she was afraid of him. 
 
December 26 – A sex offender parolee was arrested for absconding and failure to register as a sex offender. The parolee was convicted in 1989 for lewd acts with a child under 15 years old.
 
December 25 – A Sacramento judge sentenced a parolee convicted of animal abuse to serve 10 years in prison and ordered him to register as a sex offender. The parolee was convicted of felony animal cruelty for the sexual abuse of a Chihuahua mix. The dog suffered severe injuries that required surgery and now lives in a foster home. 
 
December 23 – A police officer shot an armed parolee after a high-speed chase and foot pursuit in Riverside. 
 
December 22 – Oroville police are searching for a parolee who shot and killed one man and injured at least two others following a home invasion. The parolee had his parole revoked in November and got a six-month jail RTC, but Butte County released him prior to his completion of his RTC due to overcrowding. 
 
December 15 – An Oakland parolee has been charged with being an accessory in the beating and shooting death of a man near the former Occupy Oakland encampment. Separately, the parolee was charged with kidnapping, oral copulation and robbery for allegedly attacking a woman several days after the slaying. 
 
December 13 – An inmate is back on medical parole despite committing lewd acts days after he was first released in November. The parolee was sent to a long-term care facility after he was found to be permanently physically incapacitated after a brain injury. The parolee was returned to a secure medical facility a week after exposing himself and committing a sex act in front of female nurses.
 
December 12 – Apple Valley Sheriff’s deputies arrested a wanted parolee after receiving a report that the man was holding a woman against her will. The parolee initially resisted arrest but was eventually taken into custody.
 
December 11 – A San Jose parolee with an outstanding felony warrant was shot while driving a stolen vehicle.
 
December 9 – A Long Beach police officer was shot in the leg by a round from his own gun after a robbery suspect, who was also a wanted parolee, hit the weapon while struggling to get away. 
 
December 8 – A Long Beach parolee was arrested for allegedly mugging a 90-year-old woman and ransacking her home for valuables. 
 
Also on December 8 – A parolee in Kettleman City was arrested when deputies found him hiding in a parked car with a sawed-off shotgun. 
 
Also on December 8 – A Los Angeles parolee was arrested in the attempted kidnapping of a 17-year-old girl in Santa Monica. The kidnapping attempt occurred when the girl was walking. The parolee was standing near a parked minivan with the passenger side door open. As the victim passed the minivan the man tried to force the girl into the vehicle. A struggle ensued and the girl ran into a nearby restaurant. 
 
CSP-Sacramento

December 7 – A riot broke out involving 50 inmates. Rioters stabbed two inmates during the fighting. Staff used pepper spray, rubber projectiles and also fired shots to stop the riot. Several staff members were treated for minor injuries. 

San Quentin

December 12 – An inmate in a holding cell spit on an officer. The spittle struck the officer on the head. 

Sierra

December 28 – A riot broke out between 100 to 150 Southern Mexican and black inmates. One dispersion grenade, one 109 pocket grenade and another grenade were used to stop the rioting inmates. No staff were injured.
